Stories of Pleasant Valley No. 7 - The New Schoolhouse of 1889
Visitors to Howell Farm coming along Pleasant Valley Road have seen the little red house and the buildings of the Wooden family chicken farm at the corner of Pleasant Valley and Hunter Roads. In the photo above a group taking a tour of the Pleasant Valley Rural Historic District passes this landmark. The children of Pleasant Valley during the time period interpreted by Howell Farm attended school on this site in a schoolhouse built in 1889. For the story of how this school was built and what it meant to the people of Pleasant Valley, click here and the story will appear in a new window. This is No. 7 in our series of stories about life in Pleasant Valley between 1890 and 1910. For a complete list of the stories and links to them, click here.
