Pleasant Valley Rural Historic District - Transportation

Hunter Road

Hunter Road represents the network of private farm lanes connecting the valley floor public roads (Valley and Pleasant Valley Roads) with the farms extending up the slopes of the mountains to the north and south.

Until the past few decades it provided access to the Phillips/Howell Farm. It was opened as a public road in 1860 and the iron truss bridge was added in the late 19th or early 20th century. The road is now closed due to the condition of the bridge. It is named for the Hunter family that owns one of the farms it provides access to beyond the Howell Farm.

Hunter Road looking north and across the bridge. On the left just beyond the bridge is the gate leading up the farm road to the Howell Farm farmstead. Before Hunter Road was closed this was the main entrance to the farm.
