The Visitor Center

The visitor center was dedicated on May 3, 2003 and is now in full operation and should be first stop for visitors coming to the farm. Information about tours and programs is available at the visitor center and there are rotating exhibits, such as the quilt exhibit shown below.  There are also modern restrooms and a gift shop where Howell Farm products, such as honey, maple syrup, and ground wheat can be purchased along with a variety of books, toys, crafts, and other farm related items.  Proceeds from the gift shop help support the farm programs.

The visitor center is also the home of the Charles Fish Barn.  This historic Hopewell Township barn which had been disassembled in the 1990s was raised at the visitor center on May 14, 2005.  It will be used for programs at the farm but not for housing of animals or storage of crops.  The timberframe structure of the barn will be visible in its entirety inside the barn so that visitors can better understand this form of construction that is used throughout the major farm buildings. Work continues on completing this barn for year round use.
