Part 1: Introduction

You can learn a lot about something by taking it apart.

While we had a great deal of knowledge about the Henry Phillips barn before we began working on it, mainly set forth in the historic structures report written in 1983, we have learned more in the restoration process. Siding, hay, and interior sheathing hid many features in the barn from previous investigations, and concrete and soil hid many things buried in and around the barn.
