Summon the vet without hitching
up the buggy?
Wash clothes without the bother
of a noisy, smelly gas engine?
Till the fields without harnessing
a team?
These and other experiences await
visitors when Howell Farm presents its
“Back to the Future” program.
The program takes visitors beyond
Howell’s 1890-1910 time period, to a
future when telephones, electric lights, automobiles and other amazing
inventions were changing the face of rural America. Planned throughout
the
day are demonstrations and hands-on activities that will let visitors
experience the impact of the “modern age” on the work, play
and lifestyle of
a 1940's farm family.
Highlighting the program is a
tour of the Frank and Mae Wooden chicken
farm, where visitors can see a working egg sorting machine and other
features of a mid-20th century, New Jersey poultry operation. In the
fields, visitors can watch farmers plow and plant grain using restored
1940
Farmall and John Deere tractors.
